Research Computing Laboratory
The Research Computing Lab is located on the second level of the IT Collaboratory Building (ENG 3110). It houses the ICELab (Interactive Collaboration Lab) and also does research on high performance computing, including processing, storage, and networks. Its aim is to research cutting edge technologies for computational researchers and for collaboration technologies to support ultra high quality live interactions among multiple sites. The lab employs students and co-ops from various departments to help research, test, and deploy these technologies. Support for the lab comes partially from external corporate partners who share the lab's goals.
Capabilities
The Research Computing Lab is capable of setting up network testbeds of up to 40 Gbps, connecting to the RIT backbone core at 10 Gbps, deploying software defined networks (SDNs), configuring high speed disk access storage systems using SSDs (solid state disks) and high speed disks, storing and backing up over 100 TB of file space, clustering multiple 64 core compute nodes, supporting hybrid architectures (CPU/GPU), and facilitating access to external supercomputing resources.
The ICELab supports high-end video collaboration systems including the Access Grid, UltraGrid, and SeeVogh. Its equipment can host multipoint full HD (1920x1080, 30 fps) video conferences over high quality networks using commodity video, audio, and computer equipment
