At the Fall 2009 Internet2 Meeting in San Antonio, TX, an international four member panel on TeleHealth Collaborations presented their latest work involving telemedicine activities and research. The panel was organized by Gurcharan Khanna, PhD, Director of Research Computing at RIT and broadcast live over the internet.
Ralph Pennino, MD, Chief of Plastic Surgery and Associate Chief of Surgery at
Rochester General Health Systems presented a paper co-authored by Cynthia Gordon, RN and Ralph Madeb, MD, on the "Seamless Integration of Telehealth Services into a Tertiary Surgical Practice".
Shuji Shimizu, MD, PhD, Chief of Endoscopic Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Kyushu University Faculty of Medicine in Fukuoka, Japan and an Associate Professor with the Department of Endoscopic Diagnostics and Therapeutics.
Dr. Shimizu gave a presentation on
"Remote medical education using DVTS: Expansion from Asia to the world".
Jose Conde, MD, MPH, Professor in the Division of Graduate Studies at the University of
Puerto Rico School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Research Centers
in Minority Institutions Program and Director of the RCMI Collaborative Technologies Initiative.
gave a presentation on "Supporting Remote Tumor Boards with Webinar Software".
Craig Locatis, PhD, Office of High Performance Computing and Communication at the National Library of Medicine,
gave a presentation on
"Video Medical Interpretation over IP: A Comparison Study".
Michael Sullivan, MD,
provided critical commentary on the panel's presentations and
summarized the proceedings.
