Research Computing is designed around a comprehensive data strategy to support the research environment at RIT. The research filesystems on campus are connected to a ingle research grade set of systems. The core central file server is a SunFire x4500 storage server, with 48 Terabytes of raw disk space, running OpenSolaris. A second identical research&development server has been provided courtesty of Sun Microsytems, Inc. for a total of 96 Terabytes of raw disk space for storage. Additional backup storage servers provide an additional 30 Terabytes of raw disk space to provide disaster recovery for user files.
